Author Celebration

This Thursday we will have a writers celebration in our classroom from 8:30-9:00.
All families are invited to attend. We will be viewing a slide show that the class made using poetry written by the students. Students will also have a chance to share some of their writing from this school year.

Weekly Update (12/12-12/16)

Math-
Lessons covered:
5.2 Reading, Writing, and Ordering Numbers
5.3 Place Value to Millions
5.4 Application: The U.S. Census
The math tests are graded and will go home on Thursday.
Language Arts-
We will read selections from the Voices reading series this week.
There is no vocabulary or spelling this week.
Visit the links for some practice with words from previous weeks.
Science-
We will continue studying forces and motion and continue working with the "KNex" building materials.
Social Studies-
This week we will continue our study of the native tribes of Florida.

Unit Four Review
5.1 Place Value through Ten-Thousands
5.2 Reading, Writing, and Ordering Numbers
The Unit Four test will be Tuesday (12/6).
Language Arts-
The vocabulary will come from Wordly Wise this week.
The vocabulary test will be Friday (12/9).
The spelling theme this week is "prefixes (pre-, re-, un-)."

4.4 Division Ties to Multiplication
Language Arts-
We will read selections from the Voices reading series this week.
The vocabulary will come from Wordly Wise this week.
The vocabulary test will be Friday (11/18).
The spelling theme this week is "compound words." Eighteen words were given in class, and the students each added two self-selected words.

Poetry in the Park

Poetry in the Park was a HUGE success this morning. The children all did an outstanding job, and I have been told by many people that it was one of the best Poetry in the Park performances that they have seen.
